Finally Found My Term II Voice
In 2016, words made it onto a page almost immediately after hearing the confirmation of the newly elected president. This time around, rage rather than shock and fear fills me to the brim, and has had a hold of my tongue. But last week a friend said to me, “I love how your posts have become how to stay serene while burning the f#$@in house down.” These words flowed from my fingertips in response to the image below, to temper/engage/provide context for those who took issue (in social media skirmish) at the comparison. As in 2016, wrote the following out in one fell swoop. Owning any and all mistakes. _________________________
History provides blueprints for each generation’s current state of affairs…good and bad. Whether it be General Washington who set an example to not become king, to Andrew Jackson who instigated the Trail of Tears, to Teddy who followed the first president and declined a second term nomination (later to his chagrin), to the people’s decision that two terms was enough for a President once his cousin FDR held office for four, to a president seeing that pre-conditions were keeping people sick and therefore took the challenge to work with Congress and establish legislation that addressed that measure. Hitler sent members of his team into the Jim Crow South to study and learn the efficiencies to keep a population segregated. The founders of the United States included the ability to amend the Constitution so that future generations could make good the promises of that esteemed document for the betterment and sustainability of a population of We The People. In the modern era, we have witnessed behavior that has eroded the checks and balances put in place to monitor the three branches of power keeping our country healthy and strong. The United States has served as an example of what representative democracy could/can offer on this amazing planet. History tells us we are at a turning point. There is a new blueprint on the table. Many of our neighbors, our co-workers, our teachers, our families, our communities are at risk. Many who support the tenants of the emerging history taking shape are true believers. A meme cannot/does not capture the complexities of the threat and divisiveness of what the architects of Project 2025 are building. If they are successful, I do know that civil liberties and lives like mine are threatened, perhaps irrevocably for generations. To this date, Hitler is a one-off, but there are many blueprints.
